These two words are something that I like to point out for there importance in this game of becoming more aware.
Lets start with balance, Life is very much about balance. The human body has all to do with balance. We have two legs, two arms, two ears, two sides of the brain…
It’s all a lot of facts that are also funny and interesting to ponder upon. For example that we can only find balance in walking if we keep on moving.
For me balance is for example after sitting for 2 hrs writing articles and working on emotional healing workshops I want to do some house cleaning, I than maybe want to teach my daughter some German reading and after that I might want to go to the river, and I might feel like having some good food and watch a movie, do a meditation, go for a walk with my husband…..
That could be a balanced day because it includes all my needs. And this is what balance is generally about, our needs and how to take care of them.
I like to work with a list of different themes and you can all write down from 1-10 how satisfied you are with the various areas in your live. Here are the areas to give numbers to: Relationship, carrier (professional fulfillment), friends and peers, family, spirituality, health, hobbies (me time), living space, economy (financial safety). You can do this spontanously or take your time to think about each area, whatever feels best to you.
Once you have done this you can probably recognize easily if there is a balance or not and where are some areas that go on the priority list.
Now there are catch situations in here to be aware of and we will talk about them when we go through the practical examples.
For this article I will simply continue writing about the subject of choice, because this goes hand in hand with balance.
I learnt about choice when I was looking for advise regarding child eductaion and I found the advice to give your child choices, as it will empower it, but also to not give it to many choices.
For example, you want to leave from a friends house, you can say to your child I d like to go now, how about you would you like to go now too or in 10 minutes?
Now the child has a choice, and both options are still ok for you. This helps to create freedom and limitations at the same time. I know the practical world has many more scenarios to this, but I wont dive into this now.
What I do want to dive into is the awareness of the choices we take.
We take choices all the time, but many of them totally unconscious and if we bring them to awareness we can change them. In fact a lot of this stems from not having had choices and so we don’t see where we have choices and what we do chose.
So the second part of this morning session we will do some choice awareness work, which will enable you to be more balanced in life because of the choices you make.
